How To - Move Horizon to a New Server

Objective: Successfully move Horizon and associated programs from an existing server to a new one.

Prerequisites: N/A

Refer To: N/A

Steps:

  1. Make sure that the network drive mappings are the same. If they have F:\its80\ on the old server,  then make sure that the new mapping is the same and that all the workstations connect to F drive and have full rights to F:\its80\.  Also make sure to rename the old server to ensure that when they start running the software, they are not updating the data on the old server. The same goes for the SagePro(ACCPAC) accounting programs.  Then you will be copying over the entire Horizon (or SagePro) folder to the new server.
  2. If you have custom reports, those may be stored in a different folder, perhaps a FFHORIZON folder.  It should be copied over also.
  3. All Horizon and SagePro users must have full rights to those folders.
  4. Contact ALK support if you need to move PC Miler or PC FuelTax (1-609-683-0220).  They will provide support for those packages.
  5. Contact ProMiles support if you need to move ProMiles (1-800-324-8588).  They will provide support for that.  Horizon does expect ProMiles to be mapped to the same drive letter and in the same folder name as used on the old server.  If you do need to install it differently, we can easily adjust where Horizon is looking for it.
  6. If new workstations are also being added, workstation setup must be run on each one as follows:

For Horizon:

From the Start Menu, select RUN and type the following command followed by ENTER or by clicking OK ?:\???????\SETUP.EXE  You will need to replace the ?:\???????\SETUP.EXE with the correct Drive and Directory name where the Horizon software is located.  For example, F:\HORIZON\SETUP.EXE.  You may also need to run PCMPATCH.EXE in the Horizon folder.

For SagePro:

From the Start Menu, select RUN and type the following command followed by ENTER or by clicking OK ?:\???????\WorkStation Installation\SETUP.EXE  You will need to replace the ?:\???????\ WorkStation Installation\SETUP.EXE with the correct Drive and Directory name where the SagePro software is located.  For example, F:\PRO\WorkStation Installation\SETUP.EXE

  1. For a new Citrix server or Terminal Server, the same setup.exe programs will need to be run in administrative installer mode.
  2. If you are using our EDI software or linking Horizon to Qualcomm's RI Web, then the server name must remain the same.  Also be sure to migrate any user IDs that run those services to the new server.  If these things are not done, we would need to reconfigure after you bring up the new server.  EDI works with UNC pathing, not drive mapping.
  3. If you use PeopleNet, and your IP address changes, you need to contact PeopleNet to inform them of new IP address for their Open API.
  4. Any changes with the new server that require MTI to reconfigure our software are billable by the hour.

You should notify support prior to the server move to discuss in case there are any special circumstances that will need to be taken into consideration.
