How To - Re Index Master Files

Objective: Re Index Master Files

Prerequisites: Indexing arranges the files in index order and improves their efficiency.  This procedure is similar to sorting and cleaning a filing cabinet.  Each module has an option to index in the utilities menu for that program.

Before you index files or perform any single-user function, all users should be logged out of the system.  Only the person doing the indexing should be in the directory where the MTI/ITS software is loaded.  Note:  if you use QTRACS, make sure you log off the QTRACS polling station before indexing files.

You should index the master files, Freight Billing files, and Dispatch files regularly, preferably weekly.    Programs that are used less frequently (Trip Settlements, Trip Reporting, Vehicle Maintenance) could be indexed monthly.
